The hidden tressures of Himachal Pradesh: Exploring Bakloh and Jot.

I have been travelling in India from the last 5 years and this is why I have so many stories to share with you all. This time I am going to tell you about a very small village of Himachal Pradesh. I never knew the existence of this village until one of my colleagues invited me to his home. He is from that place only. Now without taking much time, allow me to take you to Bakloh, a small village, 120 km from Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh.

I was working in lovely professional university, Punjab at that time. LPU is a hub of so many amazing people. I met people from almost every part of our county. Once we had 3-4 days holiday in a row so we were thinking how we can utilize these days. I had a colleague, Sameer; he later became my flat mate, who was from Himachal Pradesh. He asked me and one student, Jeet, to come to his home with him. Jeet had a Santro car so we decided to go from that only. The total distance was 200 km. We started our journey in evening, approx. 5 pm. Since we were driving on the hills so we preferred to go slow. It took 6 hours to reach there. We were tired so we just went to his house and slept. Next morning when I woke up, I was totally surprised; we were told that Bakloh is a small village so I was expecting a small village only with basic things, but the scene was quite different there. I was seeing a well settled and systematic village. Everything was so well crafted. The people were so good. I met Sameer’s parents. They are so nice and friendly. After breakfast I and jeet went for a walk. Yeah, it was a pure himachali village. Beautiful houses, mountains, narrow roads and fresh air. I was in love with everything. Later I realized that it was a village of Gorkha community and one member of almost every house works in Indian army. Sameer’s father is also a retired army officer. I met so many amazing people there. I can say that this village is a hidden gem. Totally unexplored and untouched.

Next day we left for Jot, again an untouched hidden treasure. Jot is a very good spot for people who hate crowd. Jot is such a small place that there is only one hotel near the bus stop. The food and the rooms at the hotel are very good. When you are at the top of the cliff, you can experience the magnanimity of the mountains. The complete silence and the sunlight breaking through the clouds to light up the mountains will make you awe and ponder over the beauty of nature. We spent whole day at Jot, just staring at the beauty of nature.

While returning from Jot, we stopped at Khajjiar. A beautiful but over crowded hill station. After the silence of Jot, it was not possible for us to experience the noise of Khajjiar so we left in 1 hour only and reached back to Bakloh.

The holiday was over and now it’s time to get back to work. Next day early morning we started driving back to Phagwara with amazing memories.
